Bagong Pag-asa (BP) is the continuation of the work of Frank and Anita Worthen. The work began in 1973 when
Frank, at 44 years of age left the homosexual lifestyle and recommitted his life to Jesus Christ. He was the
founder of Love in Action, one of the largest and oldest ex-gay ministries in the world today. He also was one of
the founders of Exodus International, North America in 1975. In November 1990 Frank and Anita were sent to
Manila as missionaries of Exodus International. Over the next four years the work in Manila flourished and Frank
and Anita returned home, leaving BP as an autonomous ministry in the hands of Filipino leadership. On returning
home, Frank and Anita started New Hope Ministry in the San Francisco bay area.
Over the past 30 years, Frank has appeared on countless radio and television shows including the 700 Club and
the Phil Donahue Show. Frank has written several books including "This Way Out " and has recently co-authored
with Anita the books "Caring for Gay Loved Ones", and “The Church and the Homosexual Issue.”
We are a Christ-centered ministry that helps people struggling with identity and gender issues come to terms
with who they are. We seek to provide a safe space for people to express themselves, process their struggles,
and navigate their issues. We also welcome men and women who struggle with issues other than gender such as
relationship, family, and those concerning an individual's emotional well-being. As a ministry, we forge
partnerships with churches and other organizations that share the same calling of ushering men and women
towards their true identity in Jesus Christ.

In September of 2022, we launched our Open Support Group which gathers men
and women struggling with issues not just on identity and gender but also on
relationship, family, and others that concern a person’s emotional well-being.
Serving as a safe community that values people and their stories, the group also
welcomes anyone who simply wants to navigate insights on how to lead a more
meaningful life. We meet every other Saturday, 2 pm to 5 pm, at the Bagong-
Pag-Asa office in Makati. An orientation is given prior to joining the group.

It is a whole-day seminar workshop where pastors, discipleship leaders, and church members gain an
understanding of the distortion of identity and its redemption. In this workshop, they are given the opportunity
to assess themselves in terms of how they relate to the LGBTQIA+ community. The workshop aims to help
them gain insights on how to uphold God’s truth while being compassionate toward people who are in the
process of finding their true identity and even those who have embraced the distorted versions of themselves.

understanding sexual identity (USI)
How do we make God’s love win amid today’s perverted view of this generation? This whole-day seminar-
workshop aims to help parents, teachers, guardians, church leaders, and ministers not only to understand
identity and its distortion but mainly to help them come to terms with the process and outcome of reaching out
to today’s generation. This is quite born from the DNA of USI, but is mainly focused on finding ways to
effectively reach out to the Gen Z.
making love win
We gather parents and guardians for a whole-day seminar-workshop on how to build the masculine or feminine
identity of their children or those they serve as guardians to. This workshop helps them understand the healthy
dynamics between parents and children, taking into account the importance of attention, affection, and
affirmation in nurturing children who should grow to be individuals confident in their true identity.
parents as identity builders
This is a whole-day engagement where lectures are given and activities are facilitated to shed light on the issue
of HIV and AIDS. The workshop aims to break the stigma associated with the sexually-transmitted disease and
help contribute to its prevention. It also encourages the participants to be a loving community for people who
are suffering from the disease and for individuals who struggle at disclosing their condition.
understanding HIV & AIDS
This is a three-hour talk focusing on the unhealthy nature of emotional dependency, a relational dynamic that can exist between friends, family members, and even romantic partners. The talk lays down the signs of an emotionally-dependent relationship and digs up some of its roots and motivations. The speakers also discuss ways of asserting boundaries in relationships and slowly taking the road to freedom from the dynamics of emotional dependency. The talk also gives opportunities for participants to ask questions and share their own experiences that can provide clarity on the subject.
freedom from emotional dependency
This is a 30-session program set in round table discussions involving the psychotherapist, a co-facilitator, and a minimum of four clients. Lasting 3 to 4 hours per session on a weekend, this program is intended for men and women coming from backgrounds of abuse, neglect, abandonment, and issues on identity and relationship. The discussions cover a wide array of topics concerning a client’s history from birth to the present. The therapy allows clients to dig deep into how psychological and emotional experiences affect a person’s view and conduct of self, giving them the tools on how to resolve their issues through time.
group therapy
This is a professional counseling session [either online or face-to-face] with our resident psychotherapist. Lasting an hour per session, it involves an in-depth processing of the client’s psychological and emotional issues serving as means to understand a person’s behavioral patterns and work on specific dysfunctions.
one-on-one
professional counseling
We are open to partnership with churches and ministries in coming up with well-informed perspectives on handling gender and identity issues and other endeavors that champion the spread of God’s truth and compassion.
This is a three-day event that is often held out of town. Speakers on spiritual growth, emotional and psychological wellness, and personal healing are invited to inspire participants in their respective life journeys. These sessions are carried out alongside outdoor activities, small group discussions, and personal quiet time. Participants are men and women who are 18 years old and above.
retreat
This one-day event is a gathering of ministry leaders, church workers, and anyone who aims to gain knowledge and understanding of a person’s identity issues and the continuing effort to expand ministerial work that benefits people, communities, and nation.

Nobody knows about it. I’m in denial. Am trying my very best to
suppress the feeling. I renounce homosexual activity for I fully
understand that it is detestable to God. But as I continue ignoring
and suppressing, the temptations keep getting stronger. I don’t
understand why God has placed me in this situation of suffering.
